Our Journey
Our story is one of faith and obedience to God's call. The inspirations for it is fuelled by possibilities in God. We dared launch not in the comfort of resources (human and financial) but in faith that even in uncertainties God had spoken and had promised to be with us.
When we began planning, our resources as the dream team of eight were about Ksh. 8,000. The first budget totalled Ksh. 75,000 — over nine times our capacity. We chose to go by faith, faithfully giving what we had and even more. That first test became a stepping stone to dare to dream. We began by faith and have jealously guarded our ministry as a walk with the Lord. God has proven dependable. He provides.
One of the greatest miracles of Grace Chapel International is our dream team — seven adults and one child. We have experienced life together in such a way that every challenge only became an opportunity to bond us more. We have not only stuck together but have grown to assume even greater responsibilities in ministry.
God guided us to a clear mission — To Disciple Champions. Our entry point was defined: students, and it has remained our focus. It looked unconventional, but God guided us. We have since married over 200 couples, built an elaborate discipleship program, and kept the sanctity of God's call.
We believed in a self-perpetuating church where members shared life and ministered to each other. God guided us to the Home Bible Church strategy. Today, nearly all members are in functional Home Bible Churches — Church happens there. We meet on Sunday to celebrate and overflow with what God is doing at home. Praise the Lord!

Founding Pastors
Bishop Godfrey J.K. Mburu was born in Laikipia District in the late sixties to the family of the late Johnson Mburu and Mrs. Margaret Wanjiku Mburu, as the second child among eleven siblings. He pursued his primary and ordinary level education in Laikipia, then joined Thika High School for A-Levels, and later the University of Nairobi — Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences — where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture.
He got saved in 1988 while at Thika High School during a weekend challenge. He first discerned God's call to ministry in December 1989, shortly after his K.A.C.E (Form 6) final exams as a young adult. His love for God and commitment to ministry has its roots in the family values handed down by his parents.
His years at the University of Nairobi proved to be a holy set-up — exposing him to a broader worldview, missions, and leadership, which transformed his approach to ministry and gave him a clearer holy imagination of what God would use him to do as a Church planter and denomination leader.
After graduation, he joined a local missions agency, Rebuilders for Christ, where he served at all levels — from Administrative Assistant to Executive Officer. On 20th May 1998 at 9:00 AM, while comfortable in that role, God spoke to him about a new Church ministry. That clarity is now translated into Grace Chapel International — Discipling Champions.
He launched this ministry on 8th June 2003 and was ordained on 24th May 2004. He has remained single-minded in Church ministry ever since — building a 'possibility environment' for members from all walks of life, with a conviction that every member can become like Christ and do as He did. He is especially passionate about creating ministries around status and age groups, with keen interest in the youth during their formative years.
From a gathering of one couple (his own family) and five young adults, the Church has grown into a discipleship machinery — having wed over 180 couples now spread all over Kenya and beyond, all carrying the DNA of the Church.
Beyond pastoral ministry, Bishop Godfrey has served in missions as Chair of the National Council and Member of the International Council of The Sheepfold Ministries (TSM).
He met his wife, Pastor Pauline W. Kamau, in 1994 and they were married on 7th December 1996. They are blessed with three children: Jael, Dorcas, and Daniel.
